Intermediate Course

Upon completion of the Beginner course you and your dog will be invited to attend our Intermediate course, where the training will be on-going, and your dog will learn more advanced skills, such as the “retrieve”, road-walking, and many other excercises. Many, many dogs find such activities a lot of fun and very fulfilling and continue “training” for their entire lives. Why stop at the basics when your dog will get so much out of his or her weekly class?

It's a course for older, more experienced dogs that have mastered the basics. Ideally, before commencing this course, dogs will have attended the Beginner course. However, even if your dog hasn’t done the Beginner course and you feel your dog would be suited to the Intermediate course, please feel free to contact Katie to enquire about booking onto this course.

This course is designed to polish the skills learned on the Beginner Course. It literally takes everything to the next level, and more will be expected of both you and your dog. Katie runs the classes in a relaxed and friendly manner - it's crucial that dogs and owners alike enjoy the training and are made to feel relaxed and comfortable. All of the training methods used are positive and reward based.

What sort of exercises will be taught during the Intermediate Course?
As all dogs attending the Intermediate Course will have the basics in place, everything will be stepped up a level and more will be expected of both you and your dog. Here’s some examples of the type of exercises that will be in the course:

Formal Recall (including the “wait”)
Walking to Heel (on a loose lead)

Calling away from distraction
The “Leave” (both up close and at distance)
The “Stay” (for at least two minutes)
Road Walking
Introduction to the “Emergency Stop” (this exercise will be further perfected and tested, should you go on to the Advanced Course)
Greeting humans (without jumping up!)
Positions across the hall
The “A” Recall
The "Send-Away"

There will be several other exercises included within the course; the above are just a few examples. During the first week Katie will give out the training manuals, which includes details of the exercises that we will do each week, as well as support material, to complement the course.

The Intermediate Course is for dogs of a very sound temperament. Dogs who show an adverse reaction to being in close contact with other dogs would probably be better having a one-to-one session, in the first instance.
